What’s up y’all!? Happy Holidays and all that good stuff to you and yours!

Today I’m excited to share with y’all a record I literally picked up an hour ago at a local spot here in New Orleans – Kitchen Witch! It’s a wonderful store on Bayou Rd Market and run by a lovely lady named Debbie and the whole store is filled with cookbooks of all types – and records!

A few days I was in a local bar and heard Ms Teena Marie on their radio and got all types of excited about the music – and today I just so happened to find her record – It Must Be Magic!

image.jpeg

If you haven’t heard her music, check it out! Her band is killing!

Tonight we’re playing in Ocean Springs, MS at the Government St Grocery! Hitting at 10pm! Take it easy y’all!

What up what up y’all?! We’re moving and grooving along back out on the road, and as always, collecting what we can when we can!

Here’s a haul I got earlier this month from a garage sale in Dearborn, MI.

All for $6!!photo-1

However, one of these things is not like the other unfortunately. *It’s important folks to always check the record before you buy it, because you may find yourself with a copy of Led Zeppelin’s I in the sleeve of Physical Graffiti, and that can be a real boner kill.

But luckily for me the people who were having this garage sale were also the same people who helped fix up our van’s A/C (SMALL WORLD)…So they said I could exchange the record, and I traded it out for these beauties!

Yeah, pretty fucking awesome!

Tonight we’re hitting in Charleston, SC at a most excellent spot – The Charleston Pour House!!

We’ll be joined up with locals _ Whiskey Diablo, so get there early and enjoy you some live music y’all!

Downbeat is 9:45PM w/ Whiskey Diablo! DBRS at 11PM!

What’s up y’all? The sun is shining and it’s looking like another beautiful day in Colorado, and I’ve got a stack of new  records on my lap.

Yeah y’all, it’s been a good haul so far, there’s more too but I don’t have enough lap space! I’m excited about all of em too but especially for that ZZ Top record – it’s a live one from their concert in New
Orleans at The Warehouse!

Tonight we’re in gorgeous Gold Hill and performing at the Gold Hill Inn! Showtime is 9pm! It’s sure to be a hot and sweaty one! See y’all there!

Alright folks, it’s time for another edition of BBR!

Today I’m taking y’all back down to Louisiana, and introducing you to one of the funniest Cajuns that ever was!

Mr Justin Wilson!

justin wilson

If you’ve ever heard of any Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes or just about any Cajun jokes, it was this man who always told em best! This was another record that my Aunt Pat passed on to me, and I’m happy to share it with y’all! However, I’m unable to find any cuts online, so these cooking videos will have to do!

Yeah folks, that’s a real Cajun man!

Tonight, we’re in Grand Junction and performing at Sabrosa! We’re hitting sometime after 10pm so y’all got plenty of time to have a few drinks and get your dancing feet ready!

See y’all there!

Okay folks, it’s a been a while, hell it’s been months. But worry not because not only do we have BIG things coming, but I’ve been doing some serious record collecting. So let’s get into it!

As you know Mother’s Day just passed, and boy do I have so much to be grateful for because of my Mom. However, today’s record comes not from her y’all, but from my Aunt Pat. She had stored away a box of records in her garage and my little cousin just happened to discover them on Sunday. 10 years they’ve been sitting in there! Well, my Aunt is one of the coolest women I’ve ever known, and without a second thought said, “Have em!” I mean we’re talking Beatles, Elton John, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Al Hirt, and today’s record choice – “Mister Naugahyde”himself, the Emperor of the Universe – Mr Ernie K Doe!!

Now you wanna learn some New Orleans music history, y’all? Read up about this man cause he’s about as good as it gets when it comes to New Orleans characters and entertainers. I’m serious too. LEARN ABOUT HIM. He was a a true New Orleans native with swagger that will never be matched y’all. From his singing to his time as a local DJ on WWOZ, he never failed to wow and stun listeners.

My Aunt Pat gifted me with his music this past weekend, and I’m still giddy that I own this record. So now I’m sharing it with you because damn it’s just so good when you can hold a piece of your hometown’s musical history in your hands and listen to it and share it with others.

Yo yo every body! It’s time for yet another edition of BBR!

Today I’m picking the one and only…Ronnie Hawkins – The Hawk! ronnie.jpg

I picked this bad boy up at Beach Records down in Florida and it’s so good! Every song is kicking and swinging with power and rock n’ roll! And for those that don’t know, Ronnie’s drummer for the early part of his career was the late and forever great Levon Helm. Just check him out hitting the skins in this old video I found of The Hawks on Dick Clark’s Beech Nut Show!

Tonight we’re in Atlanta, GA performing at The Earl with Rodeo Twister! Doors open at 7pm. Showtime is 9pm. $10 to get in!

See y’all there!

What’s up everybody?! It’s been a while since the last BBR post, so today I’m choosing a special record I found back at Florida at Beach Records!!

IMG_2983.JPG
Levon Helm & the RCO AllStars!

I can’t tell you how excited I was  when I pulled this out of the crate y’all! I’ve been a Levon Helm fan for a long time now (how can you not be) and this record was truly an excellent find. Not only did I get the man behind the drums, but the lineup has more talent than you can shake a (drum) stick at – the Blues Brother’s band, Paul Butterfield, and Dr. John are all on this album! Does it get any better? Yes it does, because the not only do all of the songs sound great, but the album artwork MIGHT be even better!

We’re back in DC tonight at the gorgeous Hamilton to share the stage with the Bumper Jacksons! Doors open at 6:30 and show time is at 7:30! See y’all there! Oh and if anyone knows of a place to crash tonight in the Baltimore/DC area please let us know

Hey folks! Whew, it’s been a successful Fleurida Tour so far, and it’s not over yet. So to keep the party going I’m pulling out a record I just picked up in Fort Myers at Beach Records!

That’s right folks, today I’m jamming on the elements –

Spirit by Earth, Wind, and Fire!!

If you’re looking for records in the Fort Myers or Bonita Springs area, I highly recommend Beach Records. Marty and Jill are good people who know how to show vinyl lovers a good time.

Tonight we’re in Ft. Lauderdale at Kreepy Tiki Bar & Lounge! Showtime is 9pm. We’ll be hanging out earlier so come out and share a drink with us!

Just realized that this was posted incorrectly back in October.. so it’s a double dose of vinyl today ….

It’s a special one today folks, as we head to LEAF Fest to join up with some of the who’s who of New Orleans music, it seems only too fitting that I was just recently gifted this…

record image

A big THANK YOU to Greg Ewan for this!

While I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, I’m sure it’s going to be a highlight of my collection. This album was a 1978 Swing House LP release featuring live recordings made at the Hollywood Empire in Los Angeles during March 1949 with Louis and the All Stars. I already have two albums of his (Hello Dolly! & His Golden Hits), but this is the first live one, and that’s really what makes it so special. As far as drummers go, Big Sid Catlett is certainly one to aspire to – he’s got the technique, the sound, and the showmanship! (If you’ve never seen him, go check him out BOOM-DA-BOOM!)

Also on this album are:

Louis Armstrong – trumpet/ vocal

Barney Bigard – clarinet

Earl Hines – piano

Jack Teagarden – trombone/ vocal

Arvel Shaw – bass

Velma Middleton – vocal

So, here’s a clip of the first track on the album,

“Panama”

What up what up, y’all?! We’re back for another installment of BBR and today I’m feeling like some good ole’ ROCK is necessary!! So I’m coming at you with the UK Metal band MORE and their album BLOOD AND THUNDER!!

more-blood-and-thunder2MORE hit the scene in the 1980s part of the new wave of British Heavy Metal going on then. Blood and Thunder is their second and final album released in 1982. I picked this bad boy up in Knoxville, TN a year or so back at a store called Hot Horse, and it’s definitely a great addition to the collection. The cover, featuring lead guitar monster Kenny Cox, is what immediately sold me on it. *Fun Fact* The lineup for this album had also changed during the recording session and vocalist, Mick Stratton, and drummer, A.J. Burton, were brought in. Burton’s drumming on the album is perfect and Stratton, who came in at the last minute, wrote and recorded completely new lyrics and vocal parts.

So without further needless words, check out Blood and Thunder and have yourself a righteous Sunday afternoon!!

Tonight we’re in Bloomington, Indiana at the Player’s Pub. Showtime is 9pm. See y’all there! ~ Boots
