New Orleans Big Brass Circus Rock Music
Hey internets! This weekend we’re in Texas, and there’s been no shortage of southern hospitality, Lone Star beer, and, as it turns out, street art. I am a big advocate for all things ‘art in public places’ and so it’s been a real treat to see some very cool pockets of artistic expression dotting the landscape of Austin and Dallas in the past few days.
Bootsy and I take an adventure to Graffiti Park in Austin:
Bootsy and an old friend have a sweet, tender reunion:
This awesome dude works the door at a bar down the street from our gig in Dallas:
Tonight we’re in Houston, TX at the Continental Club ($10.00 cover). Doors open up at 9pm and we’ll be on at 11:30pm, so come down and say hey if you’re in town tonight!
Until then, I’ll see if I can’t find any more Texas street art popping up around Houston.
Best,
Street Kid
Apparently Dallas is responsible for the first “true blues” song ever published. This happened in 1912 and was written by Hart A. Wand. Enjoy the cover on piano and Soprano sax.
Tonight only, at The Prophet Bar we join The Freeloaders, and Three Quarters Fast. Doors at 7:30, show at 8pm; see you folks tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen,
The favorite saying I’ve always seen plastered around Texas’ hippest city is “Keep Austin Weird,” and as far as Texas goes, I think they’ve got it pretty nailed down. It’s a pretty progressive city full of young people, lots of music, good food, parks and bike trails, and I hear they even recycle… and then there’s the Cathedral of Junk.
Started by Vince Hannemann in his own backyard in 1988, the Cathedral boasts 60+ tons of carefully arranged and compiled trash of all sorts. It’s been sustained by the donations from admirers around the world, and is one of the coolest little grassroots, major scale art projects I’ve seen. Below are some pics from our last visit to this testament to a man’s dedication to a vision!
Meanwhile, tonight we debut at Austin’s Holy Mountain! Doors are at 9, and the night kicks off at 9:30 with local talent, Winovino. Come make the hang, cause we don’t get to Texas every day!

Craig Butterfield: Jazz and Classical double bass ninja badass, professor
Craig Butterfield’s unbelievable command of the double bass has taken him around the world and through some of the most prestigious ensembles. From touring with Maynard Ferguson to performing for the king of Thailand, Craig Butterfield has proven himself to be a total bad ass, capable of playing all types of music at the highest level.
P.S. Gig tonight at the Broadway Oyster Bar in St. Louis. Show starts at 10.
Chugging along and damn does it feel good y’all. We’re about halfway through this summer tour and things are better than ever!!
For this edition of BBR I’m pulling out Herb Alpert Presents Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66. Even if you haven’t heard this entire record, you’ve most definitely heard their hit version of Mas Que Nada!
and for those soccer fans out there…
Tonight we’re in Cincinnati, Ohio at Findlay Market for the Findlay after Five series! Come on out for an evening with us from 5 to 9. Good tunes and Good food!
See y’al there. Boots
Here’s a video I dug up from a few months back, taken by some very kind UCONN students using spring break to do some hands on volunteer work in our community. The band in the video is how Sly and I actually met and started playing music together back in New Orleans, so I figure us playing tune by Sly and the Family Stone really ties the room together. This is “If You Want Me To Stay” as performed by the Secondhand Street Band.

Today, to show appreciation for the divine feminine, we feature a artist from Tennessee, known as the “Empress of the Blues”. Her name is Bessie Smith, and this world lost her a little too soon. May she inspire and uplift you with her sweet, yet gritty vocals.
Tonight we take stage at Exit/ In in Nashville, TN with Kim Logan and Randy Reed. Doors at 8pm, Show at 9. So excited to grace this amazing city with our dirty brass.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Here’s episode two of our set of videos from the Sugarshack Sessions! We had a blast down in Florida last year getting these recordings done with this great group of guys, and we’re glad to be able to share them with you. Keep your eyes open for more!
Also, tonight we return to Chatanooga, TN for a night of great music and beer at JJ’s Bohemia! Come make the hang, starting with Joshua Songs at 10. Do hump day the right way with yours truly!
