After driving all through the night we awoke to a beautiful morning in Austin. After loading in at Agave Bar (512 Sixth Street if you find yourself attending SXSW and you’re looking for something to do at 8 tonight. But really you should come at 6 because 27 Lights go on then, followed by New Grass Country Club) we started wandering. Our adventure took us to a place called Mi Casa where we were enticed by free tamales. These free tamales led us to the music of Suzanna Choffel, and just as quickly were made fans of the music of Suzanna Choffel. Right now we are resting by the river enjoying the sunshine.
Yessir. This Friday (March 12th) Frenchmen St. is gonna be the mother cluckin’ sheit – poppin’ off the brim with fat beats, drunken eyes, lingering smiles… Where you need to be: The Blue Nile. New Orleans Bingo Show! is partnering with the Foburg folks to bring you 4 fat bands – Bears of Blue River, One Man Machine, the Givers, and Yours Truly. Here’s how it’s going down:
Bears of Blue River
Show kicks off at 9:30 pm with Chicago folksters the Bears of Blue River. Easy, smooth, folk soul. Good stuff. NBC Correspondent Rob Hudson said their music makes him “want to walk naked through the woods!”
One Man Machine
Next up, at 10:30pm – New Orleans own funky psychedelic pop powerhouse One Man Machine & the Powers that Be. Peep the music here: One Man Machine. Yessir.

Then, come Midnight – Yours Truly takes the stage. The Dirty Bourbon River Show has some special antics planned for you! Many, many new songs, new shenanigans, even a new instrument will be introduced! Come see what we’ve been cookin’ up. It’s wild, a great mix of the old, and a whole lot of the new too. Oooohhh weeeeee!
The Givers
Closing out the night round 2 am is Foburg Headliner – Lafayette’s Folk Pop Pranksters the Givers. Check ’em out here. They’ll treat you right.
It’s gonna be a damn fine night, chalked full of some damn good music and people. I hope you all can make it out. $10 gets you access all night – the Blue Nile is at 532 Frenchmen Street.
Also, tonight (Thur, March 11th) I’ll be emceeing (& playing a couple songs with 27light) a SXSW fundraiser for us, New Grass, 27 lights, and friends at Cafe Prytania. Tix are $5, all proceeds go to Austin Stipends for all Chkn & Egg artists. That way, we can afford to spread the music! Cafe P is at 3445 Prytania, across from Touro Infirmary.
Last, but not least – we have a website: www.dirtybourbonrivershow.com. Made it ourselves, from scratch. Pretty slick, eh? Soon we’ll feed the blog through there (and get rid of myspace). And as always, let us now if there’s anything else you want to see.
So you’ve been made aware of the Kickstarter project (which at press time is at 25% !), but there’s alot…like ALOT else going on in our world. We are playing Foburg Festival at the Blue Nile on Friday, March 12th right before The Givers! Shout out to New Orleans Bingo! Show, who are the programmers for the evening!
After all the nastinest that is sure to ensue throughout all of Foburg, we head to SXSW as part of the Chik’n + Egg Showcase at The Agave on Thursday, March 18th at 415 Sixth Street. There are a ton of bands that are a part of this showcase including our peoples New Grass Country Club, 27 Lights, and Flow Tribe!
Plus we’ve got people in the lab coming up with all sorts of that good good to start floating your (yes that means you and you) way in the next few months.
Those crazy instrumentalists are at it again – “where do they get off?” you’re probably wondering – music with no vocals yeah, that shit is crazy – but truth is,they got the fat beats son. Metronome the City – the fucking good shit, check them out here
Opening up is Loyola 2 piece High in One Eye – also fucking crazy – wild pattern-driven thrust music – the good shit. Pull your thumb out yo mouth and go on down to the Circle Bar. This Saturday. Five bucks. And you get a free copy of the new Metronome the City CD. Bladow.
What a wonderful Mardi Gras. What a wonderful fucking Mardi Gras. My god. Still mulling over everything that happened; some of it blurry, most good… where to begin?..
After playing Tipitina’s everything just kind of blends together… We win the Superbowl on Sunday… Mon. hurts the head… Slipped out of Gooslby’s class early and went downtown with a keg and my pirate friends midweek for the Super Bowl parade… then Friday, opened up for Rebirth Brass Band at Cafe Prytania (amazing show, thanks to all that came out), then Sat. blends into Sunday, saw Bootsy on a Thoth float, got pelted, then Lundi Gras took us all by storm… savagely drunk, stumbling around downtown, woke up on somebody’s lawn, delirious, made it to Zulu just in time…
Me & Bootsy sleeping on the ground just before Zulu...
Then I slept a long, long time, and now here I am, Ash Wednesday, full of sins, shedding them slowly, one by one… It’s been a long, wild Mardi Gras… thank you everyone who was a part of it…
Many great new things to come… new songs… going to SXSW… Album’s up on iTunes:
This Friday (1.29.10) I will be going to see my dear friends New Grass Country Club and Bywater stringheads the Tanglers at Cafe Prytania (3400 Prytania, across from Tauro). It will be a good god damn time, and I invite you to come drink whiskey with me there. New Grass has been growing immensely, and is starting to sound pretty nasty.
Jack, Petey & Rob of New Grass Country Club
Yes sir indeed. Hope to see you there. Here’s a little preview of their music:
After many long, long nights, the mixing on Dirty Bourbon’s debut LP Volume One is now finished! It is huge! Now mastering/manufacturing… Looking forward to releasing this beast at Tipitina’s on February 5th… and then, 2 days later… Saints at the mutherfluckin’ SuperBowl! This February is gonna be amazing! Can’t wait!!!
