This week we will take a look at one of my favorite recording artists – Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass.

With over 72 million albums sold worldwide, Alpert’s musical accomplishments include five No. 1 albums, nine Grammy awards, fourteen platinum albums, and fifteen gold albums. He is the only recording artist to hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart as both a vocalist and an instrumentalist.

It is a personal mission of mine to collect all of the Herb Alpert and Tijuana Brass albums, and so far I have 11 out of 24 albums. His music puts me in a good place, and I hope it does the same fore you!

Few people have had such a pronounced effect on folk music as Doc Watson. I started listening to Doc when I was about 2, my dad would play his cassette tapes on long trips in the car. His smooth playing style and friendly voice made him one of the most respected flat-picking/finger-picking guitar players the world has seen. Check him out for yourself:

Dirty Bourbon River Show is back in the beautiful city of Carbondale today for another double header. First we have the 43rd annual Carbondale Mountain Air festival at 5pm, then at 8:30 walk down the street to Steve’s guitars for an in store performance! We’ve got a whole day full of music for you! The Blues and poverty go together like pancakes and syrup, it’s nearly impossible to have one without the other. This song written by the Chips in 1956 is a perfect example of an artist turning the hunger pains of pauperism into something we can all have a good laugh at. Check out Elwood Blues performing “Rubber Biscuit” in 1979.

TONIGHT ONLY in the beautiful, historical, red brick town of Portsmouth New Hampshire, Dirty Bourbon River Show will be rocking and rolling New Orleans style at the Press Room downtown, show starts at 9:30. Bring your dancing shoes!

0 Hot Bitches Holding Cats

This evening we’ll be going on into the Wolf Hills (as named by frontiersmen Daniel Boone after a wolf encounter) to come be a part of the Abingdon Blues and Funk Festival. Its free, and the music kicks off at 6pm with Jesse Dee, and then DBRS’ll close out night round eight. It’s gonna be a street par-tay.

Less than 2 weeks to go on our Kickstarter! Only at 37% 😦 ~ We were hoping to be at at least 50% by now, as we’re already 3/4’s of the way through the campaign… if we don’t meet the goal, we don’t get the money! Please check it out, help us make this record! Passing the tip jar round at shows now, gotta make it happen, spread the word y’all, gotta lot of good tunes going on this next one! We’ll be sure to play a bunch of ‘me tonight too!

Between the five members of the Dirty Bourbon River Show, we listen to a veritable cornucopia of musical styles and genres. From Dethklok to Duke Ellington we listen to it all.
Calypso music is the perfect way to brighten up any rainy day, and it’s been raining all week. So here’s a song that always brings a smile to my lips, and puts a sway In my hips. Originally written by Lord Melody in the early 60’s, this is a tale of love, family…..and unbridled adultery.

It went on to be recorded by numerous artist throughout the years, and is still one of the best examples if storytelling through song I’ve ever heard. Not to mention it is a laugh riot!

Also!…If your in the West Virginia area, make sure you come out to the Shepherdstown Opera House tonight! Music kicks off around 8:00pm. It’s gonna be a partay.

And if your looking for something to do in between now and when we make it to your town, check this out!
