0 Volume III Album Art & Release Details
Ladies and gentlemen, the polls are in, and it’s official: the people have chosen album cover #3. The second one was close behind, but #3 ended up conquering all in the end.
And so, here it is:
And check out this sweet back traycard we drew up with photo by Paul Chéenne:
Pretty cool, ya? This sweet baby’s droppin’ – disc, lyrics, cellophane & all – March 30th at the Maison here in New Orleans on Frenchmen St. We’re proud to announce that Alex McMurray and friends will be opening the show, and Magnetic Ear will be playing the afterparty. Following the release we’ll be leaving for a four month national tour to support Volume III’s release. Check the sidebar for dates on this tour as they roll in ——>
Thanks everybody who voted for the cover. Even if yours didn’t win, I think you’ll find a little piece of all 3 in the finished product. One month till it’s yours. Until then…
0 Some Pictures From Our New Orleans Homecoming Show
Definitely one of our best shows ever. Thank you Gypsy Space Caravan, The Howdies, Burlesque by the Rosy Purrles, & Brass Band by Carson, Ashton, Wayne & the Guch for making it so. Can’t wait until the next one…
Got a whole host of new dates up now ———————————————————>
Follow on tour as we work our way back home for the next one: 11.11.11 at the Blue Nile -> Our 4th CD Release (teasers to come at Shakori…)
0 Tonight! Three Rings of Funk on Frenchmen Street!
Tonight come join “Three Rings of Funk: A Spectacular Summer Circus” at the Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street. Three amazing local bands will be musically stroking your everythang in this order:
10pm: Alex McMurray Band ~ This stone cold streetstyle songwriter – in the vein of Tom Waits and Danny Barker – comes heavy with an aural arsenal of a band: Carlo Nuccio, Joe Cabral and Bill Malchow
11pm: The Dirty Bourbon River Show ~ You know how we do
Midnight: E Company ~ NOLA Jazz Soul Funk to bring you to the moon. Also a quintet, and just as dynamically heavy as the first 2 acts, E Company packs memorizing melodies with tight, intricate beats and fat syncopated grooves that put a smile on your face and a stranger’s hand firmly on your ass.
Do not miss this shit. These three amazing bands will light you the fuck up. Come get some.

0 What’s Going On in New Orleans Tonight
What's going on in the live music scene of New Orleans on Friday, April 8th, 2011
Finally, for like the first time in for effen eva, we don’t have to play a show on a Friday night. So we’ll be hittin’ the town, catching some of New Orlean’s finest. Here’s what’s going down in the Big Easy tonight:
Bywater cats, catch either Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes (Loyola Alum’s, Rock mixed w. Strings, Horns, bawdy singing, a damn good time) at the Blue Nile, or the Other Planets (Psychedelic Strange Rock, peep their video here) + Felix at the Always Lounge. Both of these shows start at 10pm. If your hoping for bedroom boogie by 10 & looking for a little earlier entertainment with your pretty little lady, go see Kermit (yeah, I’m pretty sure I don’t need to describe Kermit) at Rock’n’Bowl at 8:30.

Pick of the Night: Break Science at Tipitina’s, 10pm. This show will feature Chali2na (MC from Jurassic 5, an OG, if you’ve never heard Quality Control, do your research) and Kirk Joseph (Susie player from Dirty Dozen, literally one of the best Tubists in the world). Opening the show will be Gypsyphonic Disko. I am particular interested in this. A collaboration between Galactic’s sax player, Ben Ellmen, and DJ Quickly Mart, Gypsyphonic Disko melds gypsy and Balkan horn and chordophone lines with New Orleans grooves and hip hop beats. Peep their tracks here:
Even if you can’t catch the show or don’t live in New Orleans, figured y’all would find this interesting, as it is in the similar vein of DBRS. Enjoy, & hope you have a delicious Friday!
Other Great Shows Upcoming Up:
Man Man at One Eyed Jack’s on May 2nd
Wanda Jackson at Tipitina’s on May 22nd
