Holy cow it’s been a while since our last BBR post! So for today, I’m going to put up a recent treasure I found while we were in Eugene, OR…
Yes folks, this is drummer porn at it’s finest featuring the swinging drum legends, Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa! I found this at a Salvation Army within 10 sec. of digging and couldn’t believe it! Just like that! Wow. Burnin’ Beat is a 1962 sequel to their 1955 album Krupa and Rich (which I now HAVE to find).
Now I could go on and on and on and on about the impact these two men had on jazz music, drumming, and showmanship, but that would take me all day and night. So instead I’m going to talk about one of the cooler features on this album, and that is on the backside of the sleeve..
That’s right, an entire breakdown of each song’s arrangements, y’all! I’ve never seen it before on any other record I own, and thank god too cause I’ve got a lot to study and this will make it much easier!
Tonight we’re in Newport, KY at The Southgate House Revival! Showtime is 9pm!
See y’all there ~ Boots
