No shadow no stars
no moon no cars
November
November is here folks. Got a lot of big things happening. But first, let us bask in this old Tom Waits classic before we get down to business:
That’s from his Black Rider record (1993) – one of my favorite of Tom’s albums. He’s also got a new one out now called Bad As Me, and I will say – at 61 years old – he is still cranking out incalculable cuts chalked full of impenetrable wit and true grit. Dig it baby…
It only believes
in a pile of dead leaves
and a moon
that’s the color of bone…
And now on to more personal matters… as you know we’ve been on a nice’n’healthy SE tour since our debut at Shakori on Oct. 7th. Now, 20-something shows later, we are winding this monthlong train down with a finale of three high-profile shows we are proud and ever so pleased to announce…
No prayers for November
to linger longer
stick your spoon in the wall
we’ll slaughter them all

Those good lookin’ gents you’re peering at are none other than our dear friends Holy Ghost Tent Revival. Their sound is ever-evolving and we are super excited to open a new chapter with these spectacular fellows this Month, as we haven’t rocked the stage together since our jam-packed Raleigh show at the Lincoln Theatre last August. Catch DBRS & HGTR together again at either of these two shows:
Thursday, November 3rd
Machiavelli’s in Bristol, TN
or
Friday, November 4th
The Palm Room in Wilmington, NC
It is our 3rd time playing both of these towns, and we are super excited to be co-billing them up with such close friends (and phenomenal musicianship).
November has tied me
to an old dead tree
get word to April
to rescue me…
And for our tour finale, we’ll be finishing this epic month-long run on November 5th (remember, remember, the 5th of November…) in Asheville, NC at the Grey Eagle with local busking-turned-touring old-timey spinsters Blind Boy Chocolate & the Milk Sheiks opening, yours truly in the middle, and Now You See Them closing out the night.
Two hard-working heavy-buzzing bands like ourselves joining for a triple threat in a big ass club in a cool ass city.
Tell yer mama, tell yer chirren, ’cause this is gonna be a big one…
November’s cold chain
Made of wet boots and rain
and shiny black ravens
on chimney smoke lanes…
And then, we shall return home to New Orleans, and give to you a new album:
11/11/11
11:11 pm
The Old-Timey AfroPop Jibberish Junction CD Release party at the Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street in New Orleans. Albums and entrance will be completely free. If you’re not in New Orleans you can get it all for free on the internet as well. I feel that that is enough said for now…
November seems odd
you’re my firing squad
November
After that we’re going to finish recording Volume Three at the Music Shed and launch a van fundraiser (you’ve all seen that piece of …)
With my hair slicked back
with carrion shellac
with the blood from a pheasant
and the bone from a hare
November baby…
Tied to the branches
of a roebuck stag
left to wave in the timber
like a buck shot flag
Don’t be a stranger
~ Noah
