A big night of music folks as DBRS makes our debut at the Cat’s Cradle! We’re excited to be joined by two fantastic bands from right here in these foothills.
Up first tonight is local brass parade troop – Bulltown Strutters
Then you’ll be set on by Ellis Dyson & The Shambles
And then ….
Then yours truly will take the stage and set the whole place a blaze with our blend of New Orleans circus brass music!
It’s going down in a very big way ladies and gentlemen – this Monday, February 20th – Lundi Gras as we call it here in NOLA – at the Maison on Frenchmen.
Dig it:
10pm
Dirty Bourbon River Show takes the stage. This is our first New Orleans show of 2012, and we’ve got a whole hellofalot to show you. But no point talking ourselves up – you know how we do.
11:30pm
Debauche (New Orleans, LA) takes the stage. Russian folk punk stomp music in the vein of Gogol. They do it right. Don’t miss this shit.
1am
Vegabond Swing (Lafayette, LA) takes the stage. Gypsy Jazz Circus Punk Rock to close out the night. Damn fine players. Crazy Music. Just what you need.
* * * * *
… And so, that’s quite the wild 3 ring circus to round out your Mardi Gras, ya? And if that wasn’t enough, guess who’ll be DJing all night up stairs in the Penthouse? None other than Mr. Mannie Fresh himself. And if that wasn’t enough, guess what else?
The entire show is free.
Better get there early. It’s gonna be wall to wall by the time we take the stage. Hope to see you there.
We have strings! Today we invited my old orchestra buddies James Hausmann, Sam Craft and Jack Craft to record some overdubs. This session was incredibly fun. The string parts sound fantastic. This is going to be a great record.
We just couldn’t wait. We began allowing worldwide digital download of Volume Two tonight at 12:01 AM CST on dbrs.bandcamp.com
We priced the album – temporarily in this unannounced early interim period – at $20. We did this because the last one (Free Love) was completely free, and this new online bundle includes some sweet extra goodies ~ in addition to the full-quality download you get a special digisheet of the artwork, liner notes & lyrics + your choice of either:
(a) a spot on the guest list at our CD release party in New Orleans and a free, reserved, and autographed physical copy of the album waiting for you at the merch table that night
or, for you out-of-town-folks:
(b) an autographed copy mailed to your house free-of-charge on the day of the CD release party + a sticker and a personalized note from the band.
Ya, that’s a whole lot of stuff packed up in this sweet little baby:
This is our best work yet
Then, on April 2nd (Volume Two’s official release date) the album will drop to $9.99 for digital download (without the extra goodies) and will be available on iTunes and Amazon as well.
That night we will be performing our new album at the Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street in New Orleans. Musical guests will include:
Both of these bands are incredible, and we are extremely lucky to have them play with us.
This unprecedented 3 ring circus will start at 10pm and will be $10 at the door for those who did not pre-purchase the album. The Blue Nile only holds 300 people, so I’d grab your goodies and get your spot while they last.
For those in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Mobile, we’ve got shows in your town that weekend with Holy Ghost Tent Revival as well – check our sidebar.
Whether you live in or around New Orleans and plan on attending the live show, or you live somewhere else and plan on just listening to or downloading the album, we hope that you enjoy this new piece of art as much as we did making it.
We are extremely proud to bring these new sounds to your ears, and anxious for your feedback.
Enjoy!
Sincerely,
~ The Dirty Bourbon River Show
P.S. Also, apparently, there are some golden tickets floating around…
Tonight we’ll be rocking the Red Stick for a 3rd time with yet another killer 3 ring circus at the Spanish Moon. Dirty Bourbon’ll be starting the night off right at 10pm sharp with a no-hands-barred set chalked full of big announcements, beefed up bari/tenor horn sections, and yet another new song. Following at 11pm will be Phantom Party BR locals the Have Nauts.
A power trio founded on “Motown and dirty rock’n’roll,” the Have Nauts boasts a promising line-up with Jason Ourso on guits, guts and voice, Michael Roy on drums and Cohen Hartmen on bass. There’s a really good article in Stereo Gumbo on these fellas here. For extra listening pleasure check out their bassist’s other project – Cohen Hartmen and the Bone Machine – here.
Finally, closing out the night will be none other than our dear friends Glasgow. This will be our 5th show with the Craft Brothers & Company (they’re also on our upcoming album Vol II) and every time we play with them something magic seems to happen.
Glasgow will fuck you up on stage, but in the bedroom they're actually very gentle lovers
You’ve probably (hopefully) heard of Glasgow by now, but if not, I highly recommend you check out their unique brand of classy, downright nasty rock’n’roll here.
If after that you still want more, peep this impromptu megaphone gypsy string stomp Dirty Bourb and Glasgow threw together at the Dragon’s Den last year:
Hope to see you there!
~ Noah
P.S. Special announcement on Sunday – check the interwebs!
Spent all weekend in the studio finishing the last session of tracking for Volume II, due late this March 2011. Now all we have left are overdubs, mixing, mastering, and then we give it to you!
Charlie & I finally set the track listing in stone. Check it out:
1 Mad
2 The Dirty Bourbon 2nd Line
3 X
4 Old Man Time
5 The Day The Devil…
6 Train is Gone
7 Vendetta
8 My Tiny Little Friend & I pt. 1
9 My Tiny Little Friend & I pt. 2 ft. The Craft Brothers & Booty Trove Brass Band
This Tuesday night (March 23rd) Greensboro, North Carolina 6 piece folksters Holy Tent Ghost Revival will be playing at Cafe Prytania at 10pm. They sound really good – one side of their coin is very folk-rootslike – the other, very ecclectic – mixing in Trombones and Euphoniums for a big, sweet, plump ol’ sound. They’re making their way back home from SXSW, and so we figured we’d invite them out to New Orleans for a good old time.
Check them out here. They’ll be joined by a Dirty Bourbon acoustic set at 9pm, and a New Grass Country Club acoustic set closing out the night at 11pm. $5 bucks. Come get folked up. It’s the good stuff.
