Fix Our House (Van)

28 Nov

.

A Call To Action

You’ve all seen that rickity rockity tin can of a van we roll through your city in. The thing’s barely staying on its axles, it has no insolation or interior, no heat or a/c, holes in the bottom that leak water inside, a constant cacophony of strange noises and moans, no real guarantee that we’ll get to point B, not to mention a whole host of other problems… Yup, it’s time to get a new (or slightly less used) van.

But unfortunately vans are very expensive – it’s going to take at least $40,000 to purchase and outfit the kind of vehicle we need for our heavy 250+ days-a-year touring schedule. And that’s money we just don’t have! We are going to raise half of it ourselves through gigging and private parties (though $20,000 if A LOT and we’ll probably have to take out a bank loan) and we’re hoping to raise the other $20,000 from you, the listener, the lover, the supporter of live homemade 100% grassroots music….

Those of you who have recently downloaded our Old-Timey AfroPop Jibberish Junction or Free Love albums know that we don’t mind giving things away for free – and now we’d like to ask for just a little back. We need this van to stay alive, stay safe, and get to you – your town, wherever that may be. Please help us do that – the arts don’t pay us much (sometimes we literally skip meals), but we are heavily invested in heart – for the music, and for you. Do your part – help musician’s livelihoods – do something cool ladies and gentlemen… now is your chance.

As November Draws To A Close…

26 Nov

Hello folks! Hope everyone stuffed their faces yesterday – I know we all did. Now that Thanksgiving’s past I figured we’d give you a little update for how we’ll be finishing off the year…

Throughout the rest of November we’ll be finishing overdubbing Volume Three at the Music Shed here in New Orleans. Then, come December, while Vol. III’s shipped off for mixing and mastering, we’ll be hitting the road once again for a few little short trips here and there, East and West… Six new showdates just posted + more to come! —–>

Oh, and this Sunday we’ll be making a big little announcement with a whole host of prizes available for those who participate.

Need a hint?

Has a little something to do with this:

Day 4: We Have Strings!

21 Nov

We have strings! Today we invited my old orchestra buddies James Hausmann, Sam Craft and Jack Craft to record some overdubs. This session was incredibly fun. The string parts sound fantastic. This is going to be a great record.

Day 2 is finished. 6 songs in 12 hours. Not too shabby, but we still have work to do. Time to head back to the studio.

And so it begins….

18 Nov

We have begun our sessions at The Music Shed. With the help of a Mr. Ben Lorio and a Mr. Billy Moesta, your Dirty Bourbon boys are cooking up some tasty tunes for yall to enjoy. And as an appetizer, we will begin posting up some pictures and footage of yours truly as we continue to work and record, so keep your eyes and ears open. Until next time…

Stay Patient. Stay Dirty.

Dirty Eatin’ with the Bass Clef Chef: Rosemary Garlic Beef Roast

15 Nov

Rosemary and Garlic Beef Roast

4 lb beef rump roast
4 – tbs. garlic powder
2 – tbs. sea salt
1 – tbs. black pepper
2 – tbs. crushed rosemary
olive oil

Mix together spices and just enough oil to make a thin paste. Rub paste on beef and refrigerate overnight. An hour before cooking, take the beef out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Scrape off most of the paste before placing beef in oven. Cook until the internal temperature is 130 degrees or about an hour and a half. Allow meat to rest for 10 minutes before cutting. Serve with chile rellenos and mustard greens. Enjoy.
