Yes that’s right. Dirty Bourbon River Show will be performing the Free Love EP in its entirety at the Neutral Ground tonight 7.15. However, DBRS will not be the only band playing a record in its entirety. Glasgow will be on hand to preform their stellar rock opera, 1986. Yes that is correct, two bands, two whole records played from minute one to the recordings conclusion.

Even the toughest have a heart

Glasgow!

Not enough? That’s fine, we got more for ya. Everyone, yes I mean EVERYONE who comes through the door will recieve a free copy of the Free Love EP to take home. And a sticker! And on top of all of that, as a special treat Dirty Bourbon will have Joe Shirley of Easy Company sitting in on accordion and keyboards throughout the night.

The details: July 15th (TONIGHT) at Neutral Ground Cafe, 5110 Danneel St NOLA, Doors open at 9, Glasgow on at 10 with DBRS to follow.

Free Love…Get Some.

0 Harvey Pekar 1939-2010

The loser lost its winner on Monday. Harvey Pekar died at the age of 70 on Monday. Author of the seminal American Splendor, Pekar depicted our lives through his. Splendor was the catharsis for any one who works 9-5, Monday to Friday with just the hope of covering that weeks bills and come back the next week to do the same.

It could happen to any of us

Harvey Pekar 1939-2010

I remember being introduced to Pekar in the same way many have been in recent years due to the release of the film of the same name starring Paul Giamatti and being instantly enamored. Being a touch of a comic book nerd myself (I have pretty much every Batman comic book from the early 90′s) I was struck how Harvey was able to instantly make a hero out of himself, a man working a dead-end, mundane job in a sleepy Midwest industrial town.

He took what adults relent to and what young men and women struggle against and made it beautiful. He reminded us of the poignancy of everyday life. He was even quoted as saying to the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 1994 that his work was about reflecting  “a series of day-after-day activities that have more influence on a person than any spectacular or traumatic events. It’s the 99 percent of life that nobody ever writes about.” The loss of Harvey Pekar is truly the loss of a free spirit whose rebellion may have been quieter than Thompson’s but it was certainly as crucial if only for the work it left behind.

Here’s a link to a piece on Pekar’s death published in his hometown Plain Dealer out of Cleveland. Read it here.

What we’ve got in store for you is nothing short of that. Special. DBRS has the proudest of pleasures of opening up for Bob Log III, a one man band who carries the tagline “My Shit is Perfect” tonight (7/12) at One Eyed Jacks. And perfect it is my friends, believe you me, that it is.

With a perfect combination of determination, gusto, and rollicking jams, Bob Log III is a force. Not even a force that is qualifiable like the force of nature or the force of one of Muhammad Ali’s punches in his prime. Bob Log transcends all of this to be known simply as a force. Whilst strumming away at his guitar and stomping his kick drum, you may find two  lovely ladies in this mans lap. Oh, and my man wears a fighter jet pilot’s helmet while he makes everybody move to his hip shaking, head moving music.

His shit IS perfect.

This show will be something to experience. If not for yourself, then certainly for the generations to come. They will ask questions about this international man of mystery. Won’t you want to be able to answer them accurately?

So the nitty gritty details are as follows:  One Eyed Jack’s, 615 Toulouse Street  NOLA, tonight July 12th.

Doors will open up at 9pm and cover is $10.

I guess that settles what you’ll be doing with your Monday night. See ya there!

And you thought I was kidding

This Saturday (July 10th) we ride west to Lafayette, LA for a charcoal-fingered romp’n'stomp at Artmosphere. Our third appearance, this time we will be joined by the Howdies, Lafayette’s own SwingRoots’n'Rockabilly gentlemen – whiskey orbs, fingergloves, a duck possibly. Yess indeed. And, in a couple of hours, the delivery man’ll be dropping off 200 copies of the new album “Free Love”, which we’ll be handing out for free at the show.

Check out the Howdies here. They sound damn good. ‘Nuff said.
